Concentration Piece #10

I chose to make an alligator because I really wanted to play with texture.  I used a hot glue gun to create the texture of the alligator skin. The papers in the background were handmade, using watercolor, oil pastel, acrylic paint, and melted crayon.  It's not a great photograph because I took it around 10:30pm, so I will probably take another photo when it is light outside.

Concentration Piece #9

I thought of making a cardinal because I have been seeing a lot of them in my backyard lately.  Another reason why I chose to make a cardinal is because my dad has always been a big St. Louis Cardinals fan.  For the background, I used acrylic paint on wood mixed with some paper collaged on top.  The Cardinal and tree were collaged from different types of paper.  For the border of this piece, I used several woodcarving tools to roughen up the edge in order to make the subject matter and background better connect to each other.

Concentration #8

I decided to make a collage of two giraffes.  I chose to make giraffes because I like the way their spots look.  For the background I used watercolor, for the fur on the spine I used fabric, for the leaves I used construction paper, for the body of the giraffe I used pastels, and the spots on the giraffe were made from magazine clippings.  Overall, I am satisfied with this piece of artwork.
